My name is Annabelle Ferris and I have recently moved to Sydney to start my Masters of Architecture at the University of New South Wales having graduated with my Bachelor of Architectural Studies from the University of South Australia at the end of 2024.
Throughout my studies, I have been exposed to a range of design techniques from using historical theory to inform design decisions, environmental and contextual analysis, formation of formal tectonics through design explorations and the development of digital documentation skills. I am passionate about the fleeting and serendipitous moments of design so strive to look into the details of a project brief with the desire of highlighting often hidden elements. The creation of a narrative through design is a key interest of mine with the intention of blending the cultural/social and environmental contexts of the site to create a balanced and interesting spatial experience that introduces new unique perspectives to the user.
In more recent times, I am finding that I have two quite contrasting interests in the design field. The first is mentioned previously through the creation of a narrative or journey throughout a design proposition and the avenues for playfulness and creativity within a brief. The other is the attempt to incorporate generative design as a pragmatic technique for applying this narrative, where a design appears embedded within its place and cohesively responds to the land, environment and community context as much as it responds to client needs.
